Wich Trials Number 2 features two dishes with pork products that will make you squeal for more. In the red corner, from Füse at the corner of 10th and Broad, we have the Pork Bahn Mi. This consists of very thick cuts of pork loin topped with fresh veggies and garlic aioli, which make this a very simple yet filling and delectable sandwich. It goes well with any beer from Füse’s ever-changing selection; I enjoyed mine with a thick chocolate stout, which may have been a bad choice, because after a monster sandwich and a very filling beer I was near immobile, but very satisfied.
In the blue corner, fighting out of Joe’s Underground at 8th and Broad, is the Joe’s Special. A very similar competitor to the Pork Bahn Mi, the main difference is in lieu of pork loin, the Joe’s Special comes with spicy capicola. The capicola is topped with lettuce, tomato and garlic aioli with melted provolone cheese. Just like the Bahn Mi, the Joe’s Special is a sandwich for someone with a working man’s hunger. Pair it with any beer you’d like and find yourself in culinary heaven.
I am not just talking these great dishes up for my health. No, dear reader, I encourage you to go out and track down these titans of meat, bread and veggies. Seriously, a Big Mac combo runs about the same price as any of these dishes with 10 times the guilt, so go out and be a localvore!
