Welcome to Creases mixtape section, where you can listen to digital tracks of selections made by Creases editors and contributors.
It’s that time of year again! Some of the best bands the city has to offer will convene for three days packed full of local music at Sky City’s Festivus of Bands. Twenty-six great acts, ranging from prog rock to garage punk to experimental to folk and everything else in between, will demonstrate the diversity of our fair city. Some new bands, old bands and even a few reunions mark this yearly event as the perfect showcase of our wonderful scene. Each night is free to enter, and the Vinyl Swap/Shop will be held on Saturday from 2 - 6 p.m., during which patrons can buy, sell or trade records. Perhaps owner and operator Coco Rubio’s words say it best as he describes he Festivus of Bands as “a celebration of our local music scene, featuring bands young and old during the holiday season as my gift to the bands and their supporters.”

Theiss Mcintyre, aka BOOST MC, aka BakPacca is now a staple of the electronic music scene. You can almost think of BakPacca as a renaissance man of EDM. The German-born mixmaster has been honing his skills since his early teens and now boasts a collection of carefully crafted electronic masterpieces ranging from blistering drum ‘n bass, to heavy ass minimalistic dub inspired railings, to the dirtiest of trap. Any electronic audiophile will have a field day perusing the wealth of electronica on his Soundcloud (soundcloud.com/bakpaccamusic). The next time you throw a party and want freaks getting busy on the dance floor, drop some of BakPacca’s DnB mixes through your speakers and watch the bodies writhe with musical ecstacy. BakPacca will be joining 20 DJs on two stages at Sky City on Nov. 20 for the Butta Ball, so get on your dancin’ shoes and behold as some of the best DJs Augusta has to offer mix it up with each other to bring forth an experience that should not be missed.
To keep up with all things BakPacca, follow him on instagram @bakpacca and facebook.com/BOOSTYAHIGH.
Happy Bones has been spreading good vibrations across the Augusta scene since the late ‘90s through the good times and the bad. Happy Bones (aka Judge Shawn Wood) gets a helping hand from Jo Bone on bass, Adam Dickerson on drums, Lefty J on lead guitar and Doug James on rhythm guitar.
Happy Bones performances are a hard rockin’ good time with plenty of solid head rockin’ grooves to go around. After almost two decades of live performances, Happy Bones is in the studio and ready to bring his debut album into world with that same positive rock ‘n’ roll energy that is a trademark of his personality. Many of you may recognize Happy Bones from downtown as the local legend who is always finding jam sessions and demonstrating what it truly means to be active in the scene. You can catch Happy Bones performing solo acoustic sets at the Fox’s Lair (349 Telfair St.) on the last Friday of every month, and be on the lookout for Happy Bones’ debut album later this year.

Veterans of soul Sly Anderson, Larry Seabrooks and Wayne Thomas are operating under a new identity; Ten Times Ten Theory. The name comes from the idea that if one person helps 10 people, those 10 people in turn help another 10 people each and so on, the individual and the society as a whole can become more empathetic, leading to increased social wealth. That is what these men are all about, spreading good vibes. Their masterful rhythms and sharply honed talents provide the listener with something truly atmospheric.
They will be performing at this year’s Arts in the Heart Festival (Sep. 18-20) and trust me folks, this is an act you do not want to miss.
Harvey Harv
Fresh off of his July 6 release of “I Am Brilliant,” homegrown hip-hop mastermind Harvey Harv humbly shares his talents and creativity with the world. The mixtape contains 14 intelligently crafted tracks that are cerebral and thought-provoking, as well as realistic and down to Earth. Harvey Harv’s signature delivery is the cornerstone of every track, and his creative spirit builds upon that base until the end; the result is a monument to the struggle and triumph of creating something that is both recognizable and novel at the same time. Harvey Harv has some tricks up his sleeves for the coming month, so follow him on Twitter and Instagram @iamharveyharv and be sure to give his new album “I Am Brilliant” a listen on spinrilla.

If you tuned into our website in the past couple of months, you may have stumbled across a few live tracks from SKULLBUCKET. You may have also suffered a neck injury from headbanging along to their particular brand of beer-soaked party thrash with touches of doom and stoner metal. SKULLBUCKET puts on a fun-ass show that will put a smile on any metalheads face who loves to have a good time. In addition to a split with OhnOBRds, they have teamed up with Battle Shack Records to produce a full length album that will be slam packed with more of that sweet, sweet, swampy thrash. Grooves this good can turn any pocket-protector-wearing bean-counter into a PBR-chuggin’, mohawk-rockin’ psycho.
What a freaking liar. Well, there's a good chance you don't know Von Holmes, or even if you do, you have no idea what I'm talking about. Von Holmes (Billie Vacation, De-Evolutionaries, Death Wolves, etc) has been recording tracks left and right, not to tour, not to advertise, just because he damn well could. What we consider the normal way to hear music (following an online link) doesn't work for this new album, or many of his songs. If you didn't bump into him while he had a CD, or hunt him down to get tracks, you're out of luck.
So why even bother writing a review of a CD you probably won't hear? Because it's a catalog of some of the best damn music from this area. Von is one hell of a song writer, and puts all us more extroverted artists to shame. He seems content to record it, throw it out, then walk away. Sowing a seed of musical genius, then not even staying around to see if the crops yield. Maybe he already knows it will. With tracks such as "Road", "Woods", and "Bag of Bones", there’s a lot of hinting about leaving. If that’s true, there's going to be a big gaping hole left here when he's gone. Okay, maybe that was a fat joke, but I don't care, I think he'd laugh at it.

Singer and songwriter Preston Roman has been around town rocking his unique brand of crossover ska/rock. Preston has been playing music since his youth and is now poised to spread his good vibes and badass stylings around our fair city. David Francis and Anthony Carter comprise the rest of The Savage Monarchy and provide a great rhythm section to compliment Preston’s incredible talent and stage presence. One thing to be noted is their versatility; they bring the house down acoustically or with full drums and electric amps. Building on their May 2 release of their first album, be on the lookout for these guys as they tear up the Augusta nightlife in any setting.
Does the rainy weather get you down? Well, join us for a mix of songs to either help the mood, or drive you deeper into it. Enjoy!
